Description

This project is one of the main components of the Regional Indicative Programme for the eastern area of Europe within the European Commission’s 2007-2010 ENPI (European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument).

The Programme’s principal objective in the environmental and forestry sphere is to reduce pollution risks resulting from inappropriate management of solid waste in the six countries in the area of action: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

The work includes carrying out the inventory of illegal landfills existing in the pilot region; a proposal for classifying waste in compliance with the EU’s international standards; writing the waste management strategies for the next 15 years for each of the targeted cities and the urban areas around them; as well as feasibility studies for establishing a ‘DABLAS-type platform (Danube–Black Sea Task Force)’ to encourage strategic investments in waste management.
