Last July Eptisa oversaw the completion of four of the nine court extension and refurbishment contracts for the works at Blaj, Baia Mare, Viseu de Sus and Vatra Donei Courts in Romania within the Contract "Consulting Services for Site Supervision of Works - Judicial Reform Project".

This project, that commenced on January 2009 and will end on March 2011, consists of the works supervision for the Court Infrastructure Rehabilitation having as objective to renovate court buildings in order to provide better accommodation for trials, public access and security features and to apply new design standards reflecting best international practices and cost efficiency principles.

These works contracts involved complex design changes to be managed by Eptisa throughout the construction period. The main works carried out in these four Courts are the following:

  • The works at Maramures Tribunal in Baia Mare involved refurbishment of the existing building and addition of a two storey extension. Maramures Tribunal is a listed historical monument building requiring specialized supervision.
  • The Vatra Dornei Court involved the completion of a partly constructed four storey reinforced concrete frame building.
  • At Viseu de Sus Court additional working space was created in the existing single storey building by the conversion of the attic space into office space and an additional two storey extension provided an additional courtroom. Close control of the program was needed as the court continued to operate from the building throughout the construction works.
  • For Blaj Court an additional floor was added.

The remaining objectives to be finalized are: Suceava Tribunal.and Saliste, Ialomita, Bolintin Vale and Orsova First Instance Courts.

Eptisa carried out and is currently implementing in Romania significant Works Supervision Contracts in the field of Civil, Transport and Environmental Infrastructure, financed by the EU, Romanian Government or private investors.
