Aiming to facilitate the water sector reforms in Republic of Macedonia, Eptisa together with Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and Delegation of European Union in Macedonia, organised the National Water Conference held on the 6th of October, in the business hall of the Skopje fair.

The Conference, gathered three projects (out of which two were under implementation of Eptisa), currently going on in the country:

  • Reform in the system for water supply, collection and treatment at local level, EuropeAid/136063/IH/SER/MK (Local Reform), implemented by Eptisa;
  • Development of National Water Study, EuropeAid/136505/IH/SER/MK (National Study), implemented by Eptisa;
  • Reform in water sector on central level, EuropeAid/136828/IH/SER/MK (Central Reform), implemented by Niras.

All of three projects are designed to bring substantial changes in the way that water service providers operate and as well in public awareness, perception, attitude and willingness to pay for improvements. The three projects work together to provide base for constant dialogue between the water authorities and the public. The aim of this conference was to initiate this dialog, so that the main stakeholders as well as the public are actively involved and understand the reforms.

Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Mr. Bashkim Ameti, and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union, Mr. Samuel Žbogar, addressed the attendances, while the official part of the Conference was chaired by the president of ADKOM and president of the Water Regulatory Commission. The Conference was also attended by a guest speaker - Water Policy Advisor to the Inter-Ministerial Water Council chaired by the Prime-minister of Kosovo.
