August 06 2012

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has launched the web portal of Castile and Leon Cultural Heritage, a digital tool that aims to innovate Cultural Heritage management processes. Currently, it has over 50,000 assets in the internal management system and aims to manage half a million, according to Minister of Culture and Tourism, Alicia García, who has presented this web portal of Castile and Leon Heritage www.patrimoniocultural.jcyl.es (in Spanish) at the Biennial AR & PA.

This web portal is a solution based on Geographic Information Technology, developed by Eptisa TI in coordination with the Computing Service of the Ministry. It shows over a map not only the information about the cultural assets of the region, but the location and their areas of protection. Displaying this information in its territorial context allows analyzing its relation to other assets and protected land, linked also with the existing Catalogue of Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC in Spanish).

Furthermore, Eptisa TI has developed an internal infrastructure that facilitates the georeference process and the information maintenance by the technicians and companies.

Thus starts a new example of good practice in spreading information by public bodies through the development of applications that add value to the Administration, the regional society, citizens and companies related to cultural industries.
