Arcelor Mittal España S.A. has awarded to Eptisa the “Project for the auscultation of the San Andrés de los Tacones, La Granda and Trasona dams, Technical assistance for their maintenance and exploitation, and inspection of the Narcea River hydraulic system infrastructures” for the period 2014-2016. This new thirty six months project continues the services provided since 2011.

The project will be carried out in three dams located between Gijon and Aviles which supply the Narcea Channel and the factories where Arcelor Mittal Spain produces flat carbon steel products. The works include data collection and periodical analysis of the instrumentation installed in the dams, as well as the implementation of a Maintenance Plan of the control devices. It will be monitored two thousand and twenty-five instrumentation sensors and seventy-one topographic control points.

To query and display auscultation data, a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) software developed by Eptisa will be implemented, which will allow data enquires via web (SAyTL 6.1). The data collection will be carried out manually and the database updating will be monthly from the servers located in Eptisa’s offices in Madrid. In the future, this software will allow all process automation, according to customer needs.

From the point of view of safety, the project includes biannual technical inspections of the dams and their secondary structures, and successive inspections in the Nacea water supply channel, both actions include the production of a damage map.
