Eptisa will carry out the Engineering and Construction Supervision for the 4th Phase of the CAREC Corridor 3 improvement project in the Kyrgyz Republic

This project aims to improve the regional and cross border connectivity and promote trade through the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 120 km of the Bishkek-Osh Road

January 19 2015

Eptisa has been commissioned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan to carry out the Engineering and Construction Supervision for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Bishkek to Kara-Balta section of Corridor 3 (Bishkek-Osh Road). This section, currently in very poor condition, poses serious traffic hazards as well as being an obstacle to trade and regional development.

The Engineering and Construction supervision services for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of a section will cover an estimated 120 km on the Bishkek-Osh Road. This project will enhance regional connectivity and trade via CAREC Corridor 3 but also will improve the efficiency and safety of movement for goods and people on the Bishkek Osh road. The scope for the project includes increased road safety measures such as road signs, lane markings, street lighting, parking areas, bus stops, crash barriers, and sidewalks, but also a capacity building component as well as awareness campaigns to ensure further road safety for road users as well as roadside communities is put into place.

This contract is financed by the ADB and is the 4th part of the CAREC Corridor 3 improvement project, which to date, has rehabilitated more than 80% of the Bishkek-Osh road.

Besides considerably improving the safety of the people, this project will support cross border connectivity and promote trade which is fully consistent with the Kyrgyz government’s priority to update key regional economic corridors as part of the 2013-2017 National Strategy for a Sustainable Development.

Eptisa is currently implementing another CAREC project providing Road Safety Consultancy Services for the Second CAREC Corridor 2 Road Investment program – Project 1 in Uzbekistan. This project will define a detailed program to improve traffic safety issues and will be used as a model for other road sections.
