Eptisa will draw up the detailed design of an underground road in the La Marina dock in A Coruña, Spain

It will be a traffic-free zone on surface and will improve one of the most important tourist attractions of the city

The A Coruña Port Authority has awarded to Eptisa a new contract for drawing up the detailed design of an underground road in the Dársena de la Marina dock.

La Marina dock is the main maritime front in the port area of A Coruña, being one of the main recreation areas for the population, as well as one of the most important touristic attractions of the city.

Historically, the vehicular traffic has passed for this place close to the coastal shelves of the dock, creating a section where hardly there are space for a promenade and a cycle lane together with the sea border, and to create a separation between the La Marina gardens and the dock port. Since the construction of the promenade in the Dársena-San Anton Castle section, the traffic continued in the port border until this area.

In general terms, the project will consist of burying the road that currently passes beside the Dársena de la Marina dock, which is approximately 530 metres long, and will start in the Alférez Provisional Avenue close to the Los Cantones Village shopping centre and the NH Atlántico Hotel. This will connect with the underground road O Parrote, which is currently under construction, and the Maria Pita tunnel.

The construction of the underground road will be carried out using concrete screens, constructing an upper slab of the tunnel and the subsequent excavation of filling materials. Finally, the lower slab will be constructed. Once the structure will be finalized, all the necessary elements and installations will be added in the underground road for its correct operation.

The A Coruña Port Authority has decided to extend the scope of action of the already said subterranean road, with the construction of the parking and the underground road of the Parrote. With this work the traffic will be eliminated in the surface over the entire Parrote esplanade.
