September 01 2014

The European Union Delegation in Algeria has awarded the contract to Eptisa, in consortium with the German company GFA Consulting Group and the Spanish public company TRAGSATEC. The aim of the programme is to support Algeria's sector-based environment policy (PAPSE), focusing on the sustainable development of the metropolitan area of Algiers.

The overall programme will contribute to strengthening the sector-based environmental strategy, planning performance, budgetary transparency and streamlining the sector institutionally and financially. It will also help build up the capacity of the sector, the environmental information system and the organizational role of the Ministry of Regional Planning and the Environment and help develop incentive systems and a sense of responsibility amongst the parties involved. The programme also envisages positive results in strengthening the preservation of biodiversity, improving the integrated management of waste, reducing industrial pollution, and disseminating cleaner technologies; taking into account the effects of climate change on coastal development.

The contract aims to mobilize a technical assistance team to support the central and local structures involved in the programme in order to achieve the results and to perform the activities.

The consortium led by Eptisa will implement the project during 40 months, from September 2014 to December 2017.
