Eptisa will supervise the extension of a wastewater treatment plant and the construction of a new sewerage system in the area of Velipoja, Albania

The purpose of this EU-funded project is to provide supervision services during the implementation of one works and three supply contracts related to the construction of a new sewerage system and to the extension of a WWTP, currently under construction

October 07 2013

Water and wastewater infrastructure in Albania is in very deficient conditions. Whilst many sources of water supply are adequate to meet demand, the development of these sources together with treatment facilities, transmission mains, storage reservoirs and distribution networks has suffered from a lack of investment and neglected maintenance.

In most serious conditions are the sewerage collection systems and the treatment of wastewater. As a result of new urban developments on the coastal tourist areas, including legal and illegal buildings, most of these vicinities are not covered by water and wastewater systems. In the last years, new water projects are under implementation or planned to be implemented, among them the construction of a wastewater treatment plant and a sewerage system for the municipalities of Velipoja and Shkodra.

The supervision services during the construction of this new infrastructure are to be financed by the IPA Programme of the European Union. An international tender was launched and the contract was recently awarded to Eptisa.

Within this new assignment a team of local and international engineers of Eptisa will provide supervision services for the implementation of one works and three supply contracts related to the construction of over 30 km of gravity pipes, 1.15 km of main transmission pipe, manholes, house connections and 6 pumping stations. The team will also supervise the extension of the WWTP, currently under construction, in order to treat a total flow up to 465 m3/h.

This project represent a clear indicator of the consolidation of Eptisa as one of the leading environmental engineering service providers in Southeast Europe, with relevant projects under implementation in the fields of water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure in all the countries in the region, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the FYR of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Romania and Turkey.
