Eptisa wins new project in Ukraine: Support to Ukraine in approximation of EU Environmental Acquis

The overall objective of this project is to facilitate and promote the EU Environmental Acquis approximation process based on the Association Agreement and relevant framework documents concerning approximation of environmental legislation of Ukraine.

The purpose of this contract is to enable the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR), other relevant stakeholders and civil society actors to prepare for the implementation of the EU environmental requirements, by strengthening legal and institutional system in environmental governance and horizontal, water quality and water resource management and nature protection issues.

The projects also includes assist with the implementation of Annex XXX to Chapter 6 of the Association Agreement, the Basic Approximation Plan and other relevant strategic documents and raise the institutional capacity and public awareness in environmental approximation issues.

In total, the works consist in the reinforcement of detailed support in implementation of 12 EU directives. The three main components comprised are: Legal approximation of Directives in the Area of Environmental Governance and Horizontal Issues, Reinforcement of support in implementation of EU water quality and water resource management directives and the component 3: Reinforcement of support in implementation of EU nature protection directives.

The primary target group will be the ministries and other institutions responsible for the approximation of the EU environmental acquis and for the management of EU-funded projects. Other stakeholders included are the State Agency of Water Resources, the State Environmental Inspection, the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Municipal Economy, the Hydro­ meteorological Centre of the State Service of Emergencies.

The direct beneficiary of the project on behalf of the Ukrainian Government is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. Participation of civil society organizations and the population constitutes a considerable factor that secures successful project implementation.
