From April 2012 the İstanbul İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü (National Education Authority) and the company VİKO Elektrik collaborate in the Energy Efficiency for a Brighter Future Project to achieve the energy efficiency at schools.

The Kağıthane Chamber of Commerce Primary School has won the contest regarding energy efficiency in schools, selected as a structure which has the highest energy efficiency principles. Prior to that success, the school was also among the selected structures of quality buildings of 2012 in the ARKIV Selections contest.

Energy Efficiency at Schools project aims to ensure efficient use of energy in Istanbul, create and raise awareness of teachers and students on the issue, prevent energy waste, lower the cost of energy on the MoE and to protect the nature.

This is one of the 40 schools which was demolished and re-constructed within the scope of the Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP) with the aim to prepare Istanbul for any potential earthquake. The architectural projects were designed by Uygur Architecture Office and technical assistance and supervision services were provided by Eptisa.

Kağıthane Chamber of Commerce Primary School is an example of efficient use of natural resources. It does not only change habits, but also puts forward the idea of efficiency / saving resources with the help of technology by putting in place nature-friendly systems; sensor systems are integrated in the design of lavatories for students/ teachers to enable using domestic water more efficiently; photocells are installed at common areas for saving electricity; closed-loop heating system for fuel saving through all year, etc. Decreasing of energy resources and its effects on the economy and environment are taken into consideration in the design of the buildings to ensure maximum use of day light.
