Opening ceremony of San Pedro Carchá Integrated Justice Center in Guatemala under the SEJUST Program

This new center will facilitate access to justice for the entire population in their own language and provide comprehensive support to victims

On August 24, the Coordinating Body for the Justice Sector Modernization and the Delegation of the European Union in Guatemala inaugurated the San Pedro Carchá Integrated Justice Center (IJC) in Alta Verapaz.

The construction and equipment of this single-storey building with 987 m2 has been made possible thanks to the technical and financial cooperation of the European Union, through the Programme to Security and Justice Sector (SEJUST) in Guatemala, implemented by the Executive Secretary of the Coordinating Body for the Justice Sector Modernization of the Government of Guatemala.

This IJC joins the Integrated Justice Center of La Libertad in Petén, as part of the territorial decentralization and physical concentration of institutions in the security and justice sector.

The Programme SEJUST has the aim of improve the justice and security sectors to allow it to operate more effectively in prosecution and investigation of crime and guarantee due process by protecting the rights of victims and vulnerable groups seeking rehabilitation, reintegration and education of the lawbreakers. Eptisa, as the leader of the consortium, provided technical assistance services to this € 22 million project.
