The project for the A Coruña access highway and link with the Alvedro Airport in Spain has been awarded with the San Telmo 2013 Award

The judges has awarded a second prize for its technical and constructive quality to the Project drawn up by Eptisa

The Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, the Spanish association for Civil Engineers, awards every year the San Telmo Award to the engineering works which, through their technical, territorial and constructive quality, improve the people’s quality of life in Galicia.

This year the judges of the San Telmo 2013 Award, besides select the External Port of A Coruña as the project winner, has also awarded a second prize for its technical and constructive quality to the project “A Coruña access highway and link with the Alvedro Airport. Section: Zapateira – A-6 Highway”. Eptisa carried out the technical assistance for drawn up the design.

This project, which was promoted by the Ministry of Public Works, has also considered a work with a high strategic importance because it has improve the mobility in the metropolitan area of A Coruña, relieving the Alfonso Molina Avenue where 150.000 vehicles passes daily.

During the design of 10.2 km section, prevailed the criteria of environmental and landscape integration by optimizing the integration with the environment where it runs and minimizing the acoustic and visual conditions thanks to the construction of cover tunnels, retaining walls and noise barrier with vegetation.

In this last edition were submitted eleven finalized works between January 1st 2011 and December 31st 2012. The judges that selected the awarded work and the three second prizes were Administration representatives, as well as from the areas of consultancy, construction and prestigious civil engineers outside Galicia, to ensure its neutrality.
