The RIVER project seeks to reduce vulnerability to floods and improve disaster preparedness in Bangladesh, one of the countries most exposed to climate change. Eptisa leads community participation and institutional strengthening interventions in areas highly exposed to river floods, cyclones and floods, with a special focus on climate adaptation, social inclusion and community preparedness.
Services provided:
- Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and Climate Change Training
- Communication campaigns on WASH, health, nutrition, gender and skills.
- Community risk mapping and development of evacuation plans
- Support for the management and operation of emergency shelters
- Development of communication strategies, educational materials and protocols.
- Training for School Management Committees and Local Disaster Committees (UDMCs)
- Working directly with women’s organizations and gender violence prevention committees.
- Development and revision of operation and maintenance guidelines for shelters and community infrastructure.
Impact:
Significantly improved community resilience, flood preparedness and local capacities to cope with climate disasters. The project fosters a culture of prevention and inclusion, strengthening vulnerable communities against the effects of climate change.
