Optimization of Urban Transport in Vigo

Demand and Modeling Study for the New Bid 2025

Eptisa developed a comprehensive technical study to analyze the demand for collective urban transport in Vigo and build a mobility model to optimize the public transport network in view of its future tender in 2025. The work included current analysis, demand projections and evaluation of alternative scenarios.

Main activities carried out:
  • Diagnosis of the current transport service situation
  • Household mobility survey (3,000 surveys extended to a universe of 257,088 people).
  • Cell phone data collection for travel pattern characterization
  • Intercept surveys (720) and public transport user surveys (600)
  • Traffic gauging and exploitation of existing urban sensors
  • Traffic modeling and transport network simulation
  • Evaluation of optimization proposals and final network design

Objective:

To have a solid technical tool to define the future urban public transport system by bus in Vigo, adapted to the real demand and aligned with sustainable mobility criteria.

Impact:

A more efficient urban transport network, adapted to the real mobility of the city and designed to meet the current and future needs of its citizens.
