Knowledge Is the First Step Towards a Safer Community

RESILIENCE STARTS AT HOME

On 18 October, Skopje City Park in the Republic of North Macedonia hosted the “Resilience Starts at Home” event, bringing together citizens to learn how to prepare for floods and respond promptly to potential risks, while marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Residents, families and children took part in the “Resilience Trail”, engaging in a range of interactive and educational activities designed to help them understand:

✅ How to identify flood hazards and risks.
✅ How to prepare their homes and families for potential emergencies.
✅ What to include in an emergency kit.
✅ What to do in an emergency and when to call 112.
✅ Why flood hazard and risk maps are essential tools for better planning and protection.

Special thanks to the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia for its participation and for helping spread important messages of preparedness, solidarity and community support. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who attended, including residents, families and members of the media.

💙 While floods cannot always be prevented, their impact can be reduced through preparedness and timely response.

That is why we continue to promote a simple but powerful message:

KNOW. PREPARE. RESPOND.

The project “Improving the Implementation of the EU Floods Directive through the Harmonization of National Legislation and the Preparation of Flood Risk Management Plans” is supported by the European Union and co-financed by the budget of the Republic of North Macedonia. The final beneficiary is the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, and the project is being implemented by a consortium led by Eptisa.

Together, better prepared for floods!
