NEW CONTRACT: SUPPLY OF DRINKING WATER TO CAMPO DE CALATRAVA

Eptisa has been awarded the contract for the drafting of the construction project to supply Campo de Calatrava from the Llanura Manchega system, in Ciudad Real (Spain), the promoter being the Directorate General for Water, under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. The Contract is part of a series of actions that have been developed for years to solve the problems of drinking water shortages in the Manchega region; problems that are not only limited to the shortage of supply sources but also include a poor quality of available water, both surface and groundwater, having declared part of the area in an EMERGENCY situation according to the latest monitoring report on indicators and scenarios of drought and shortages.

The action itself will entail the drafting of two independent construction projects:

  • Supply project from the La Mancha Plain System to the municipalities integrated in the Vega de Jabalón Consortium (Campo de Calatrava), made up of 12 municipalities representing a population of approximately 40,000 inhabitants. Among the most representative localities, the following stand out: Almagro, Bolaños de Calatrava, Moral de Calatrava and Pozuelo de Calatrava.
  • Project for the completion of the priority branches in the south-western area of the La Mancha Plain, to supply 9 municipalities with a total population of 45,000 inhabitants, with the towns of Daimiel, Villarrubia de los Ojos and Malagón standing out for their importance.

The important scope of the work can be seen if it is taken into account that it will be necessary to design more than 100 kilometres of water transport pipelines of different diameters up to 800 mm, with activities ranging from the Study of Solutions and the choice of the optimum supply solution, to obtaining Cartography and Topography for the implementation of the works, Geological-geotechnical studies, design of pipelines (layout and definition of their elements), design of the associated hydraulic infrastructure (pumping stations, water storage and regulation tanks, river crossings), structural calculations, preparation of environmental documentation, design of electrical, remote control and remote control installations, definition of affected services and expropriations, etc. , among other activities.

Eptisa has extensive knowledge of the project area as it has carried out important works closely related to the object of this new project, among which the following stand out: The “Project for the Water Pipeline from the Tagus-Segura Aqueduct (ATS) to Incorporate Resources into the La Mancha Plain”, drafted by Eptisa between 1994 and 1996, as well as the subsequent “Technical Assistance during the execution of Works” (years 2004 to 2007); the “Project for Distribution Branches from the Water Pipeline from the Tagus-Segura Aqueduct to Incorporate Resources into the La Mancha Plain”, drafted by Eptisa between 2000 and 2002; and, lastly, preparation of the “Second Master Plan for Water Supply in Castilla-La Mancha”, in which powerful GIS tools were developed to provide rapid knowledge of the situation of the municipal water supplies in the area at the time of drafting.
